"But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach a gospel to you besides that which we have preached to you, let him be anathema. As we said before, so now I say again: If any one preach to you a gospel, besides that which you have received, let him be anathema."
-- Epistle of St Paul to the Galatians 1:8-9
Note that St. Paul said ANYONE, which I guess includes even an Argentinian freemason.
Right! It doesn’t get more simple or clear than that. I came to the conclusion a long time ago that most people believe what they do because it allows them live as they like, not as God desires.
Thank you, Prodigal, I have relied on that scripture and the scriptural admonitions about knowing the Shepherds voice as opposed to the hireling's. It tells us everything we need to know as discerning Catholics.
Thank you for your thoughts, Evangeline (what a beautiful name!). Often it's not easy to interpret scripture, but there is zero ambiguity in what Paul tells us, right? That clarity is a great blessing, particularly in these difficult times.
In days of such moral confusion, all we have is what Jesus and the apostles told us, or what we can learn from tradition. Would God let us get things wrong all this time. No. In times past it was the people who kept these corrupt men on track as best they could from the outside. Now its our turn. Some little thing we can do for God.
Amen! More people should call out Mike Lewis. He is an enemy of the Catholic faith. I agree that there are only two positions a faithful Catholic can hold: R&R or Sedevacantist. (Know my Sede friends will disagree though😉). Thank you Chris!
What to do if the Pope or the bishops teach deviant doctrines?
“And if we discern a certain contradiction in his words and deeds, as well as those of the dicasteries, well, we must choose what was always taught and we turn a deaf ear to the novelties
destroying the Church”
Abp. Marcel Lefebvre, Declaration 21st November 1974
Our Lord: “And I say to thee: That thou art (Cephas - Rock) Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
Hi Kaylene. R&R= Recognise and resist. Recognise there is a pope but resist his false teachings etc. Sedevacantist= the Chair is empty, no current pope. For the best collection of Sedevacantist writing on Substack, I recommend WM Review hands down! But I also want to make it clear that although I highly respect those who hold the position I don't myself. At least not currently.
A valid pope can lie but is prevented by the Holy Spirit from teaching anything contrary to what his predecessors taught, or even promote or approve anything harmful to souls, e.g. the Protestantized & Masonic-inspired mass of the homosexual crypto-Jew & Freemason "Saint" Paul VI. On him see chiesaviva.com/lettera%20ai%20cardinali/letter%20to%20cardinals.pdf (summary of his evils)
"...this See of Saint Peter always remains unblemished by any error, according to the divine promise of our Lord & Savior to the prince of his disciples: ‘I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail....’” - Vatican I, Pastor Aeternus, 6.
I had to go and look up the Likoudis tweet to see if he was joking or being absurd in context or something. No, that's it.
Rex Mottram level stuff. I understand he wants to reject thr more hamfisted R&R system, but his own understanding of the true system is also ham-fisted. His system is in some ways closer to the truth than R&R, but he completely subjects our knowledge of the faith to the will of a man in white whom others say is the pope.
But while the pope's teaching is indeed proximate rule of faith, he is proposing an objective body of revealed truth which the mind apprehended and to which it assets.
It seems Likoudis' mind does not exactly assent to revealed truth, but rather his will assents to whatever he is told - which is why he would rather go to Fr Karen's Mass than conclude a man other people say is pope, is not the Pope.
“If the pope teaches something, it must be Catholic...."
That is true, ergo John XXIII (religious liberty) thru Leo (add the V2 revolution in all areas of Catholic life, new mass & suppression of the TLM, ecumenism, universalism, religious indifferentism) are not valid popes, since they all taught what was contrary to previous Catholic teaching.
"...this See of Saint Peter always remains unblemished by any error, according to the divine promise of our Lord & Savior to the prince of his disciples: ‘I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail....’” - Vatican I, Pastor Aeternus, 6.
Sorry, Chris. You get this one wrong. There is only one option, and R&R is NOT Catholic as it contradicts Catholic teaching on the Papacy for 2000 years. You get the infallibility problem wrong as a result, forgetting the infallibility of the “ordinary and universal magisterium.” The Gal ch 2 argument is rooted in a false exegesis and even St Robert Bellarmine, in a subsequent pamphlet refutes those who draw the R&R position from his own words. Instead, St. Robert Bellarmine in De Romano Pontifice (Chapter XXX) SAID:
“The fifth opinion (regarding a heretical pope) therefore is true; a pope who is a manifest heretic by that fact (per se) ceases to be pope and head (of the Church), just as he by that fact ceases to be a Christian (sic) and a member of the body of the Church. This is the judgment of all the early Fathers, who teach that manifest heretics immediately lose all jurisdiction.” See also Canon 188.4 1917 Code. Etc etc. The SSPX position is a pragmatic fabrication to justify living in two worlds at the same time.
Paradoxically, the confusion can strengthen one´s faith (I find), as it drives a reckoning between the head and the heart about what we believe and why. Faith and reason fit together.
A. I am to know what God has revealed by the testimony, teaching, and
authority of the Catholic Church.
Q. Who gave the Catholic Church divine authority to teach?
A. Jesus Christ gave the Catholic Church divine authority to teach, when He
said, “Go ye and teach all nations”. (Matt 28:19.)
The above from the Penny Catechism (the Catholic Faith) is not part of the R&R catechism (Modernism), which goes as follows:
Q. How are you to know what God has revealed?
A. I am to know what God has revealed by the testimony, teaching, and
authority of the R&R.
Q. Who gave the R&R authority to teach?
A. The Second Vatican Council gave the R&R authority to teach when it declared [Every man has] the right, to seek the truth in matters religious in order that he may with prudence form for himself right and true judgments of conscience, under use of all suitable means. (DECLARATION ON RELIGIOUS FREEDOM, DIGNITATIS HUMANAE, 3.)
We did see Pachamama. We cheered when the idols were thrown into the water! We prayed for the believers in Pachamama. We were sooo sorry the altar was used at all ... for flowers? The Holy Spirit is leading and guiding us ... receive and accept God our Father's fathering and Jesus' love ... God loves us !

I'm sure they'll get round to cancelling both St Paul and St Peter soon - sooner rather than later at this point. Isn't Leo questioning Papal supremacy now?
I'm disappointed in young Likoudis; his grandfather, James, was quite the gentleman. Sorry Andrew, but no Pope can change the Trinity into a Quaternity or ordain women, or ad nauseum...
I'd venture to him that if he believes the pope cannot teach any error at all, and yet the papal claimant proposes a contradiction to what the church has always taught, then the safer course for one's soul is to side with God and St Paul against the novelty and believe the papal claimant is not the pope.

I don’t understand your answer though I study diligently …but then I’m a new kid on the block to TLM .
My position is that if the pope lies….big time he may well still be the pope but he is a child of the father of lies .

Never let me be accused of “ I was just following orders “.
I sent you a direct message. Don't want to occupy Chris' space with stuff that is not related to his platform.
Thank you. It looks good but my new policy is no paid subscriptions .
Substack are good but also naughty.
Long story.
There are free stuff on there too. Also check out NovusOrdoWatch on all the different platforms, Facebook, Youtube etc.
I think even better than WM Review is novusordowatch.org.
Thank you.
Blessings and appreciation from Sydney Australia.

the issue is not the Pope lying, the Pope can sin. What he can't do is bind the entire church to error.
Such a clear and lovely point . I think many struggle to articulate this , especially under pressure of word games.
PS.
Thank you.

I was just about to mention Rex Mottram, but I see you beat me to it.
Who is that?
A character in Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited. See, e.g., https://the-american-catholic.com/2015/06/18/the-rise-of-rex-mottram-catholicism/
Great stuff.
Thanks!
Thank you for another excellent article.
Unpleasant topic, but this is an excellent article that lays everything out clearly.
Of all the fertility symbols in the world, they had to pick that one, the ugliest.
As a mother of five, I'm really insulted.
And then Convid happened straight afterwards. We are conveniently memory hole-ing that as well.
Plagues are what happen when you turn to worship false gods...
“Con”vid. Good one, Cate! Wasn’t it the biggest psyop in the history of the universe?! Still have acquaintances that believe all of the lies. Sad.

I have no doubt that if St. Paul were alive today, he would be cancelled by the new synodal church!

I mean James Martin has already said that St. Paul got it wrong on sodomy.
