"dozens of bishops committed the Church to a “life of poverty” and a “new lifestyle” divested of worldly riches, so as to be truly a “poor Church for the poor.”"
Er....all these Reverend Gentlemen did not specifically commit themselves to a "life of poverty", etc. They were committing a billion other people to be a “poor Church for the poor.” I suspect most of the real Catholics around the world who grew up in real poverty, like my parents and grandparents, would have told them in suitably crude terms where to go.
Of course, I could be doing these Reverend Gentlemen a gross injustice. Maybe they really did sell off their palaces, chauffeur driven cars, etc, give everything to the poor, live in a one bedroom flat and travel by bus.
The nearest that the real Church has got to real poverty is paying billions in damages on behalf of the paedo clergy. Plus losing a fortune on upmarket property in London.
Truer words have never been spoken. And how about a gigantic shelter for “poor migrants” in Vatican City? Of course that also would require hiring hundreds more Swiss Guards and building a prison. Costly

But it's all these inconsistencies that serve as fertile ground for testing us.
I believe there is no injustice, only experiences. Injustice is felt when we give ourselves importance.
Another excellent treatment. Your charitable critique adds clarity by explaining the middle way postion of Rerum Novarum. That position respects private property, free enterprise, subsidiarity, the role of labor, craftsmen, guilds, intermediary institutions, voluntary sharing of wealth--not statist egalitatianism via socialism. More, you speak well about equality and inequality. Marxists, neo Marxists, liberation theology, a some social justice ideologies work havoc by flattening the world. They have no grasp of Aristotle or Aquinas on the topic. Namely, inequality is good if talent, hardwork, excellence, volunteerism, or justice is important. Justice oft means an unequal outcome as per the faster runner collecting the. Gold medal or the hard working baker, butcher, or candlestick maker keeping more of what he earns. On the other hand, monopolistic capitalism is also competition killing and unjust. More to discuss later on but a reading of McNabb, Chesterton, Beloc and Catholic economic theory in the guild system would be good for the current regime to reflect upon. Thanks for adding clarity and historical information we need to know.
As a Marxist, Leo plays right into the Cloward–Piven strategy to overwhelm the system. One of Saul Alinsky's Rule for Radicals was making, in this case, Christians live up to their own ideals. In each case, overwhelming the system to crash the society.
Excellent observation, Mr. Tomassi. May I add for those who may not know this that Saul Alinsky dedicated his book to Satan! That should tell us everything we need to know not just about open marxists but about socialists (i.e. demonrats) and all others who attempt to deny God in a futile effort to remove God from our lives while worshipping Satan.
Paul the 6th loved Saul Alensky and had him at the vatican and read his book under the auspices of Jauques Martian I wonder if pope Paul noticed who the book was dedicated too??????
Why are Catholics so willing to be ignorant of how these dudes (I say dudes, because I think it represents their lifestyle, rather than a religious one) have used secular politics to shape society? Yet these same Catholics talk politics, all the time, rather than discuss real matters like The Faith? I think because they’d all be divided on their own faith! That’s what Vatican II did, made us dumb followers rather than Trail Blazers for Christendom. I found a Tridentine Mass at the lockdown! I figured it all out, now! I enjoy puzzles, this is a puzzle I enjoy putting together, now that I’m out of the New Order of Mass! ⚜️ Ave Maria💙
I am not sure it is willful ignorance on the part of faithful but more the result of a deliberate effort to hide the truth behind the efforts of V-II clergy to shape society according to THEIR will, NOT God's. Proof of this position is that few bishops if any, actually work to defend God's Church and His faithful by publicly denouncing pedophile priests, then turning them into secular authorities for lawful punishment. Instead, they INTENTIONALLY cover up their heinous crimes stealing tithes from the faithful to pay off lawsuits! The abuse of children is heinous but so is the INTENTIONAL cover up of those crimes! As Marian prophecies have made clear, the church will fall into apostasy STARTING at the very top, and Prevost is unfortunately just the latest proof of those prophecies.
O Maria, sine labe concepta, ora pro nobis qui ad Te recurrimus!
God did not make everyone the same. He made some short, some tall. He made some beautiful, some ugly. He made some smart, some dumb. He made some healthy, some with afflictions. I’m sure there are more, but you see where I am heading. We have all been given gifts and crosses. Sometimes the gifts are crosses and sometimes the crosses are gifts. The important thing is what we do with what God has given us.
As a former Novus Ordo seminarian from the late 80’s and early 90’s, Liberation Theology was shoved down our throats. I had to work at a soup kitchen in the poor part of town for an entire semester. That was followed the next year by an entire year of Clinical Pastoral Education at a hospital ran by a so called Catholic nun who never wore a habit and by a layman who was a marginal Catholic at best. Both of these required experiences ran right alongside of Social Ministry. It smacked more of Protestant theology than Catholic theology. I remember how miserable and angry I was during that time. The reason was because I was not yet a priest but a layman being inserted into an environment in which I could not administer the Sacraments of Confession , Anointing of the Sick l, and Viaticum. Sanctifying Grace is what I wanted to give as a priest. Instead, it was as if I was acting like nothing more than a Protestant minister. Preferential Option for the Poor? Yes, and that theology is and was on steroids. Given this theology is already a condemned heresy, it is blatantly obvious that we have an antichurch led by an antipope.
Bergoglio and Prevost: “inequality is the root of social ills”
Not only does this contradict previous papal teaching, it subtly offers a facile 'solution' to real poverty: just make everyone equal, and you won't have to worry about improving anyone's lot in life. All you have to do is have the government confiscate and redistribute money until everyone's equal-- and if that just makes everyone equal in poverty, so what?
But if we are going to concern ourselves with alleviating poverty instead of universalizing it, there has to be a discussion on how wealth is created, including the necessary place of a free society in this process. And there has to be acknowledgment that a modern root of creating wealth is the availability of affordable energy. But this obvious truth is something that leftists will never acknowledge because it violates their irrational core belief that energy production violates the planet.
Everyone knows from universal experience that socialism inevitably leads to more poverty not less. But for those who believe that 'inequality is the root of social ills', socialism's spread of poverty is a good thing because of the equality this promotes.
We all have to make the effort of believing what socialist 'papists' tell us. When they say that they want economic equality rather than economic improvement, they mean it.
Of course, if you have a country where inequality is abolished, like East Germany, you will find that the Communist bosses lived in a gated community with its own gas station for their chauffeur driven Volvos.
In Communist Czechoslovakia they even had their own currency - golden crowns, as opposed to the ordinary crowns used by the proles. Golden crowns could buy you Western luxuries in special shops.
Yes, equality of outcome is marxist in origin and it is a lie as every attempt to force it has led to immense suffering, leading those forcing it on society into Hell.
I have written about this numerous times. Leo is not an outlier. Neither was Francis. Both represent the Catholic churches embrace of globalist, materialist utopianism that started at Vatican II. Here are some of the articles that I’ve written.
Excellent commentary. The exhortation peddles Marxist ideology, yet again
If only the first papal exhortation had addressed fallen nature's desire to dominate others, what St. Augustine called libido dominandi. Imagine an exhortation titled "Gloria at honore coronasti nos", (Psalm 8) in which all of humanity is reminded of our origin and destiny in God. The struggle of our times is one of competing anthropologies that result in horrible lifestyles and political systems. Marxism and Islam to name a couple, because they have made an alliance, are inherently oppressive and exploitative. There is so much confusion and most have no moral compass because the Church no longer teaches. Our Saviour has revealed the truth about God and man. The splendour of this truth is sorely needed everywhere. Exsurge Domine!
Who was it that complained that the precious oil used to annoint the feet of Jesus could have been better used to provide for the poor? I think his name was Judas. This pretense at being charitable is sickening when they have neither love for God or man. They concern themselves with building their utopian heaven on earth which is nothing short of the satanic rule of antichrist. Thankfully Christ has pre warned us that none of us should be taken by surprise that when we see these things taking shape we can know our liberation is close at hand.
“The Church cannot effectively help the poor by severing herself from her past wisdom. If anything, the true riches that the Church has to offer the materially poor (and everyone else) are the timeless treasures of the Faith: the truth about God and man, the grace of the Sacraments, the example of lives transformed by Christ. When those supernatural treasures take a backseat, all the material aid in the world will not save humanity.” This is the faith I converted to! Without emphasis on the supernatural nature and gifts of the Church, we really have nothing to offer the world and the world will continue to marginalize the “faith.”
I can’t disagree with any of this. I think there’s also an irony here inasmuch as the kind of arguments that are being advanced here could be used as apologetics for vast systems of control, through a CBDC, digital surveillance, social credit scores, etc., etc., which would actually immiserate everyone except those who run the system—and fall most heavily of all on the poor. In fact, I think this is what would be most likely to happen if we start by forgetting God and our duties to Him
I’ll note another irony. Throughout the 60s and 70s many Catholic Churches stripped out their statues, their altars, their art, their fixtures and fittings. This was often presented as a being for the poor. A former “Anglo-Catholic” Anglican priest now a priest of the Church said to me that much the same happened to the Anglo-Catholic churches of England, many of which were even more splendid and lavishly decorated than the Catholic ones. He said: “I’ll tell you who benefitted from this: principally the antique dealers.”
He added that people stopped giving beautiful items to churches to be used in worship, which were often given formerly in remembrance of departed relatives. Why give something that you know might be sold in a few years and pass out of use in worship to merely become no more than an objet d’art for a wealthy private individual? Formerly we had a situation where what a church had accumulated over generations. And it was there to be enjoyed by all, rich and poor alike, to beautify services, to lift the mind and to bring the best one had to the worship of God.
Ok so I am poor and this document flat out annoyed me. It’s patronising for a start, the last thing poor people want is a pat on the head from someone who is surrounded by such material opulence. One of the major causes of me being poor is financially supporting my ex and her child (not mine) and there I am battling the spiritual poverty she’s mired in which comes from having a broken home and a morally reprehensible mother and a father than abandoned her - forget her grinding poverty where there are days when I really can’t help when she doesn’t eat but look at the spiritual poverty of her living a life where the Adversary has his hands wrapped firmly around the throat of her life and I am engaged in bitter spiritual war to prise the cold dead fingers of Satan off her neck, I look to Rome for aid, for the spiritual ballast to fight this battle and what do I get? This windy Marxist claptrap from the Papacy itself. People sneer at me when I pour scorn on the hierarchy, ‘Protestant’ they jeer but no it is not that. It is purely this, I am better off on my own fighting this war without this pointless hierarchy that has nothing to offer in terms of support and succour for the spiritual battles I fight because this hierarchy has abandoned the battlefield to its eternal shame and impending judgement.
If it's any consolation, "This windy Marxist claptrap" is not from the Papacy but from its counterfeit, we being in the time of the prophesied Great Apostasy right now, indeed since the 1960s.
Delexi Te says it all, no need for Prevost to pen a diatribe. English translation is, I have loved you, which is past tense and doesn't mean I still love you.
The many need to catch up to the few and realize that from day 0 on the logia Prevost has been telling us what he has in store, and it has nothing to do with promoting the Catholic faith.
Excellent in depth coverage, much appreciated. Lula is loving this in Brazil. No coincidence he was in the Vatican this week (campaigning for 2026) and embracing the exhortation of Leo, saying;
“I told him (Leo) that we need to create a broad movement of indignation against inequality and that I consider the document to be a reference that needs to be read and practiced by everybody,”
It was a private meeting, however, I very much doubt that the sham trial of Catholic Bolsonaro came up - now the Jimmy Lai of Brazil. The Marxist doctrine inevitably tramples on human freedom in the name of the ¨humanist¨collective march to a false utopia.
I doubt they'd be including their own documents!! If God's will is a long reinstatement of the Church, I'm sure they'll all be included on a new list - which will be pretty long.
Some thoughts come to mind. First of all from the Holy Gospel: Mt 26:11 "For the poor you have always with you". The second thought is continuing from there with Mary anointing Jesus with the costly spikenard and Judas saying that the money should have been given to the poor, yet he was the one rebuked by the Lord and the woman praised for Jesus knows the hearts of men.
There are also spiritual works of charity, as well as the corporal works of charity. I think of that Priest, or was it a bishop, that worked in South America for decades and bragged how he had never baptized anyone. Is that the gospel? I don’t think so. Souls are perishing due to a poverty of faith. And our infiltrated, modernist church, in a general sense, has not made it a top priority to enrich them in the knowledge of God. They are prey for the enemy.
Yes, almsgiving has always been a necessary part of our faith and even to this day, the widow who gave her two coins is still remembered. Something to consider: for the enemy, it is anything, but God. Oh, focus on the poor, the poor! Focus on climate change. Focus on “migration“. Focus on all religions are a path to God. Focus on anything but the truth of the gospel or take things out of context.
It is my true belief that a big reason for the persecution of the faithful who want to worship God in the most possible reverent way with the traditional Latin mass is because they do tend to know the faith. They see that there are changes that are leading away from God. The “normal“ catholic, even those who come to mass every Sunday in the novus ordo, do not tend to know the tenants of the faith. They divorce, contracept, and abort pretty much the same as the rest of the secular world. Many approve or support all of the alphabet sins. As a holy priest often reminds us, you cannot love what you do not know and so many Catholics just do not know the incredible, beautiful faith that is ours as so many of our leaders have pointed us in other directions.
A final comment: the biggest reason for the persecution of the faithful who attend the TLM is that the devil hates it! And those who persecute these faithful are his minions whether they know it our now.
I loved the report on that 1965 Catecombs Pact:
"dozens of bishops committed the Church to a “life of poverty” and a “new lifestyle” divested of worldly riches, so as to be truly a “poor Church for the poor.”"
Er....all these Reverend Gentlemen did not specifically commit themselves to a "life of poverty", etc. They were committing a billion other people to be a “poor Church for the poor.” I suspect most of the real Catholics around the world who grew up in real poverty, like my parents and grandparents, would have told them in suitably crude terms where to go.

Yes, equality of outcome is marxist in origin and it is a lie as every attempt to force it has led to immense suffering, leading those forcing it on society into Hell.
Marxism squashes everyone down to the lowest common denominator. If anyone dares to stick their head up, it gets chopped off.

Here, here, brother in Christ. Im right with you, and we are entirely tired of marxist claptrap and persecution coming from our own church.
It's coming from the antichurch, the true Church being now "underground," independent of apostate Rome.

And the widow who gave her two coins did so freely. The government did not come and take it from her.
