Where does Canon law or any other rule of the Church hold or imply that it is a violation of Catholic principles for a Catholic to believe that a certain claimant to the papal chair is not valid?

During the Great Western Schism, when there were two and even three competing claimants to the papal chair, virtually every Catholic necessarily thought that there was a false claimant to the papal chair.

as always, your research and writing is excellent. what is most interesting is that you end the titles of your most recent articles with: "....meanwhile the sspx is in 'schism'". the reality of your research brings us to full circle.
