Watch the current regime long enough and it teaches you its catechism without ever printing one. Who gets praised. Who gets protected. Who gets scolded. Which sins get renamed “complex realities,” which truths get called “dramatically untrue,” which institutions get treated like partners, which Catholics get treated like problems.

A congratulatory note is sent to a flagship left wing paper in Italy in the name of “press freedom.”

A new report shows self described Christian colleges steering students toward Planned Parenthood and abortion pipelines with an almost bureaucratic calm.

Madrid runs a synodal machine that can float “temporary priesthood” and “future women priests” in official paperwork without anyone slamming the brakes.

A Polish cardinal denounces older Good Friday wording as “dramatically untrue” and “scandalous,” and the Novus Ordo keeps negotiating its own language about conversion and covenant.

Then Leo XIV takes the microphone to keep the Vatican II series going, praising Dei Verbum as a kind of charter for “dialogue” and “friendship,” like the Council’s main achievement was changing God’s tone of voice.

That is the map. Here are the landmarks.

The love letter to La Repubblica

Leo XIV sent a message marking the 50th anniversary of anti-Catholic, atheist founded, La Repubblica, addressed to its editor Mario Orfeo, praising “press freedom,” “dialogue,” and journalism that is “free,” “transparent,” “fair,” “without prejudice.”

The Catholic instinct reads this and immediately recognizes an inversion. The Church spent centuries insisting that error has no rights, that the press can become a weapon, that “public opinion” is easily manufactured, that the loudest paper in the capital often functions as a catechism for the regime. In 2026 the Vatican does not warn the world about propaganda. It congratulates it, urges it onward, blesses it with soft words about the “common good.”

From the political angle, it looks even uglier. The modern left’s entire power structure runs through information control. Corporate media, elite universities, NGOs, “fact checkers,” platform gatekeepers, all of it functions as one ecosystem. The churchmen who talk nonstop about “dialogue” rarely mean dialogue with faithful Catholics clinging to tradition. They mean dialogue with the institutions that shape the ruling narrative. They want a seat at that table. They want friendly coverage. They want the protection that comes from being in the club.

So the Vatican praises “independent journalism” while the same cultural machine brands orthodox Catholics as extremists and treats Christian moral teaching as hate speech. The irony is not subtle. It is the point.

The Planned Parenthood chaplaincy hiding behind the word “Christian”

Students for Life’s Demetree Institute reports 114 Christian colleges and universities with abortion support or relationships with Planned Parenthood, after examining 725 institutions during the 2024 to 2025 academic year. Fox News’ coverage highlights the claim that abortion support rose sharply since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

Read that again slowly. After Dobbs, the mask came off. When the federal regime stopped imposing abortion everywhere, these institutions moved to impose it locally through “resources,” referrals, internships, career pipelines, and the familiar euphemisms of HR culture. Students for Life says a significant share of infractions involve referring students to Planned Parenthood as a “health resource,” and their project tracks schools grading from A+ to F.

This is where political reading and a Catholic reading meet with zero tension. The same elite class that screams about “democracy” uses institutions to bypass voters. When they lose at the ballot box or in court, they shift power to accrediting bodies, campus bureaucracies, grant networks, student life offices, DEI regimes, and “counseling services.” The abortion industry becomes a normalized partner through administrative language instead of public debate.

Then comes the inevitable punch line. Even Villanova, described as Leo XIV’s alma mater in the Fox report, is cited as receiving an F due to connections such as listing abortion organizations in career materials.

If anyone still wonders why the postconciliar establishment is so fluent in vague moral speech and so allergic to direct condemnation, this is why. The institutions are compromised. The money is compromised. The alumni networks are compromised. The prestige economy is compromised. The “dialogue” model always ends with the same altar call: offer incense to the regime or lose your seat in polite society.

Madrid’s Convivium: German Synod cosplay with a Spanish accent

InfoVaticana reports on Madrid’s “Convivium” process leading into a Presbyteral Assembly scheduled for February 9 to 10, 2026, under Cardinal José Cobo, with official working documents synthesizing extensive submissions and including a section of “Peculiar Proposals.”

Inside that section appear calls for optional celibacy, talk of a “temporary priesthood,” and even references to “future women priests,” presented in the compiled material without being flagged as heretical in the synthesis.

The old Catholic world handled this sort of thing with a different vocabulary. There was doctrine. There was anathema. There were limits. There was the simple idea that the Church is not a laboratory where activists workshop their preferred outcomes.

The synodal church treats revelation like a suggestion and treats priesthood like a career track. “Temporary priesthood” is the managerial jargon version of a ruined theology. It imagines Holy Orders as a job with stages, transitions, and personal growth arcs, like the priesthood is one more identity someone tries on before moving on.

Then the women clergy line arrives and the entire “consultation” project reveals its real religion. This is progressive politics wearing a chasuble.

Poland edits Good Friday and calls the old words “untrue”

Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś’s complaint about the old Polish Good Friday prayer for the Jews being “dramatically untrue” lands in the exact place where the postconciliar project always lands: the Church’s own language gets put on trial, and modern interfaith politics gets seated as judge. The scandal in the story is the theology hiding underneath the edit.

The Church’s doctrine is not “dual covenant.” There is no parallel salvific track running alongside Christ, no second covenant still functioning as a sufficient path to God for a people who reject the Messiah. The Old Covenant was real, holy, and divinely instituted; it was also ordered toward Christ and reaches its fulfillment in Him. When the Messiah comes, the shadows do not keep standing upright as a separate religion with its own independent salvific promise. The Church inherits what was promised, not by theft, not by power, not by politics, through fulfillment. Israel’s vocation was to bring forth Christ; once He comes, the true Israel is defined by union with Him. Scripture itself speaks that way. The Gospel announces one covenantal reality consummated in Christ’s Blood, one salvation, one Name given under heaven by which men must be saved. A prayer that forgets that is not “pastoral,” it is false.

That is why the older instinct in the Good Friday prayer is not cruelty. It is active charity. It refuses to flatter. It refuses to pretend that rejection of Christ is a harmless “different path.” It takes seriously the real spiritual condition described in the New Testament: blindness, hardness, veils, a people beloved for the sake of the fathers, still in need of the same Redeemer as every other man. A Catholic prays for their conversion for the same reason he prays for his own perseverance. Charity wants salvation. Charity names the disease so the Physician can heal it. Charity does not whisper that the patient is already fine.

Calling that “scandalous” reveals the new religion. The old prayer presumes the supernatural order, the kingship of Christ, the necessity of faith, baptism, repentance, and grace. The new instincts treat Judaism less as a soul needing Christ and more as a dialogue partner needing reassurance. The Cross gets recast as a public relations liability. Good Friday becomes an interfaith ceremony with softened edges and scrubbed nouns.

The progression is always the same. Prayer gets revised to satisfy the age. Theology follows the revision. Memory becomes “extremism.” Then Catholics who keep the older words in their mouths get treated as the problem for remembering what the Church used to teach with a straight face. The conquest does not require soldiers. It requires definitions. When “charity” gets redefined as affirmation, the Faith gets redefined as offense.

Vatican II’s “friendship” catechesis: when doctrine becomes therapy

Leo XIV’s January 14, 2026 general audience continues a catechesis series on Vatican II, calling Dei Verbum “one of the most beautiful and important” council texts and framing revelation as God speaking to man “as to friends,” emphasizing dialogue, listening, prayer, and “communication” that avoids “chatter.”

There is truth here, of course. God calls us to union. Grace makes us sons. Prayer matters. The saints knew that long before a council in the 1960s needed to repackage it.

The trouble is the frame. Vatican II’s hallmark move is taking realities once preached in a vertical key and rewriting them in a horizontal one. The language of friendship becomes a substitute for the language of fear of God. Dialogue becomes a substitute for proclamation. “Communication” becomes a substitute for conversion. Then liturgy follows the same psychological arc. Less sacrifice, more gathering. Less judgment, more accompaniment. Less “repent,” more “share your story.”

Leo XIV is not merely teaching prayer. He is teaching the Council’s anthropology, the Council’s tone, the Council’s instinct to make everything sound like relationship management. The result is predictable. The Church starts sounding like every other institution in a declining West. Warm words, thin doctrine, endless process.

The unified picture: the revolution rewards its allies

This is institutional capture. A captured institution rewards the people who flatter it and punishes the people who remind it of what it used to be.

Catholicism calls it something even more blunt: betrayal of the deposit of faith. When the Church’s leaders trade clarity for dialogue, sacrifice for process, conversion for “communication,” the world does not become Christian. The Church becomes worldly.

The week ends where it began, with congratulations sent outward and compromise carried inward. The revolution keeps smiling. The faithful keep paying for it.
